Jinan is accelerating construction on a series of biological medicine industrial bases, fostering high-end industries in proton therapy for cancer and genes, and cultivating industries related to chemical drugs, bio-pharmaceuticals, high-performance medical apparatus and instruments, and modern Chinese medicine.

Industrial Foundation

Jinan has several supportive platforms such as Life Science City in Jinan Innovation Zone and a national-level incubation base for drug innovation. It has developed a biological medicine industrial base featuring R&D and an industrial park. The city has built regional industrial clusters focusing on bulk drugs, Chinese patent medicine and innovative medicine production.

In 2020, the industrial value in the field exceeded 150 billion yuan ($23.44 billion). Jinan is home to around 3,000 pharmaceutical enterprises of various types, with over 1,500 drug approval certificate numbers.

Development goals

Efforts will be made to develop chemical medicine, biological medicine, high-performance medical instruments, and modern Chinese medical industries. The city will also focus on the development of proton cancer treatment, gene medicine, predictive medicine, genetic profiling, medicine and healthcare, biological vaccines and agricultural biological products.
