
Jinan has made remarkable achievements in developing its economy, industry, and urban areas over the past five years.
The city's economy maintained steady growth during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20). Officials said that the city's GDP reached 944.34 billion yuan ($144.49 billion) in 2019.
In 2019, the value added of modern service industries accounted for 60.1 percent of the value added of all service industries, and the output value of high-tech industries now accounts for 51.2 percent of the total output value of industries above designated size.
The Shandong Institute of Industrial Technology and the Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology were established in the city during the period.
The city has become a national leader in a number of high-end industries, including supercomputing, artificial intelligence and quantum technology, and the number of high-tech enterprises in the city increased from 609 in 2015 to 2,238 in 2019. That number is expected to reach 2,800 by the end of this year.
During the past five years, Jinan helped 2,810 businesses complete their technical upgrades, with a total investment of 19.2 billion yuan.
Officials said a total of 104 demonstration projects featuring intelligent manufacturing were established, and the number of digital factories reached 120.
Looking forward to the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) , Jinan will firmly implement the national strategy of environmental protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin and promote collaborative development within the Shandong provincial capital economic circle.
