5G technology is expected to provide strong technological support to help cities become smarter, said Ma Bo, a deputy attending the third session of the 13th National People's Congress.

"I hope more 5G base stations will be constructed and trial operations for 5G networks will be expanded," said Ma, who is a manager of the network operation department at the China Unicom branch in Jinan, Shandong province.

He also suggested that the government will provide preferential subsidies to 5G enterprises to effectively reduce operating costs and facilitate the expansion of the technology.

He added that 5G technologies will be a key infrastructure in the development of China's digital economy, and the combination of 5G with artificial intelligence, big data and other technologies will revolutionize the digital economy.

Wang expressed high hopes and expectations for the widespread use of new information technologies.

As the leading telecom operator in Jinan, China Unicom has significant advantages in providing infrastructure related to mobile communication networks, cloud, big data, internet of things and artificial intelligence, he added.
