Elderly care services should make use of new technologies such as the internet of things, artificial intelligence, and 5G, said Zhuo Changli, deputy to the third session of the 13th National People's Congress.

"To enable the elderly to live out their years comfortably, professional nursing staff and intelligent facilities are both needed."

More enterprises focusing on smart platforms for elderly care, intelligent care equipment, and family service robots are urgently needed.

Further efforts should be made to form a relatively complete supply chain in China and provide systematic and scientific solutions for intelligent elderly care.

Zhuo, 57, runs a housekeeping service agency called Sunshine Elder Sister in Jinan, Shandong province.

Since its establishment, the company has provided nearly two million jobs, mostly taken up by laid-off workers and migrant workers from rural areas.

"Domestic service is a special industry. Service providers enter the home of their employers — a private space. They must show love for the family of their employer through hard work," Zhuo said.

"People are the heart of the domestic service industry. We are turning 'nannies into talent'," she said.

The company is offering free training courses for domestic helpers. In 2019 it trained a total of 33,900 people and helped 306,000 people find employment.
