As the fifth largest city in South Korea, Daejeon has a population of 1.5 million and spans an area of 539 square kilometers. It is also the capital of Chungcheongnam-do province.

Daejeon is home to a series of State-owned companies, such as the country's minting tobacco and water resources corporation.

Daejeon is the high-tech research and development center in South Korea. Daedeok Innopolis in Daejeon is known as the country's "Silicon Valley". It is home to more than 60 national research institutions and over 200 scientific educational institutions.

Daejeon established friendly cooperative city relations with Jinan in 2011. Since then, the two sides have made deep exchanges in the fields of economy, trade, and culture.
