Jinan is making efforts to improve people's livelihoods and create a livable environment to help build a moderately prosperous society in all respects, officials said on July 26.
Jinan's fiscal spending on improving people's livelihoods and social well-being has increased from 55.88 billion yuan ($8.64 billion) in 2015 to 102.37 billion yuan in 2020, with an annual growth rate of 11.4 percent.
Since 2015, 260,000 sets of housing have been built or renovated in rundown areas, improving the living conditions of nearly 800,000 people. The living environment has also improved, with the air quality index increasing by 32.7 percent.
From 2015 to 2020, the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents rose by an annual average of 6.7 percent and 7.7 percent respectively. In 2020, the two figures reached 53,329 yuan and 20,432 yuan respectively. The city has created one million jobs in the past five years.
Local government has made great efforts in helping poverty alleviation. Last year, 1,006 poverty-stricken villages in the city were lifted out of poverty.
Since 2017, 592 primary and secondary schools and kindergartens have been built to serve local education. The number of people covered by the city's basic medical insurance program increased by 28 percent.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2015-2020) period, Jinan government built a public cultural service network covering both urban and rural areas in the city, which is also free of charge. A total of 29 public reading rooms have been established for reading enthusiasts.
