​Laiwu excels in decade of development

Laiwu district in the city of Jinan in Shandong province has made huge strides in high-quality development in the past 10 years, local media reported.

The district's gross domestic product surged from 41.3 billion yuan ($5.8 billion) to 90.8 billion yuan over the past 10 years and general public budget revenue increased 20 percent over 2012.

In the last 10 years, Laiwu made significant progress in promoting the transformation of growth drivers from old to new and developed industrial clusters for fine steel and advanced materials, biomedicine, intelligent manufacturing and high-end equipment. The district currently is home to 35 enterprise technology centers above provincial level, 231 high-tech enterprises, and 28 gazelle enterprises.

Continuous progress has been made in improving people's livelihoods over the past decade. Poverty alleviation was completed on schedule with 36,000 people being lifted out of poverty. A number of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools have been built to high standards and 152 old residential areas have been upgraded.

The district has also made comprehensive progress in rural vitalization. Laiwu has cultivated 76 leading agricultural enterprises above the municipal level. Agricultural exports accounted for nearly 80 percent of Jinan's total.

The ginger industry in Laiwu district is listed as one of the province's top 10 agricultural industry clusters. The brand value of Laiwu ginger currently reached 12.4 billion yuan.
