The Laiwu black pig is a superior domestic pig species in China, with great productivity and superb meat quality. As one of the oldest pig species in the world, it has a history spanning almost 6,500 years.

In 2006, Laiwu black pig is included into national livestock and poultry genetic resources protection variety list by the Ministry of Agriculture. With the help of local supporting policies, Laiwu district has achieved positive results in black pig breeding, pig feed production, standardized ecological breeding, and the research and development of featured pork products in recent years. It has developed more than 20 varieties of meat products in three categories, including cold meat, roasted meat and sausage.
