Pingyin county
Pingyin county, located in the southwestern part of Jinan, features a terrain that is high in the south and low in the north. The county is mountainous, forming the western extension of Mount Tai, and the overall trend is southwest.
The rivers passing through Pingyin county are the Yellow River and Huihe River. The main rivers within the county include Langxi River, Yudai River, Longliu River, Jinshui River, and Anluan River.
Pingyin county has a warm temperate semi-humid monsoon climate, characterized by a dry and windy spring, a hot and rainy summer, a clear and refreshing autumn, and a cold and snowy winter.
Roses have been cultivated in Pingyin for a long time. According to historical records, the planting of roses in Pingyin began in the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220).
In 1959, the first "Pingyin County Rose Research Institute" was set up in Rose town. By 1987, a rose planting area of 9,680 mu (about 6.45 square kilometers) that extended to Ligou, Kongcun, Pingyin, and other towns was formed, with Rose town serving as the main production area.
Roses have become the leading industry in Rose town since 1996. In 2002, the Rose town Party committee and government established the "Pingyin county Rose Association" to stabilize the fresh flower market and promote the rapid development of the rose industry. The rose planting area in Rose town now stands at 10 sq km while the rose area in the county now spans about 26.67 sq km. There are nearly 20 varieties of various rose products at present. The town also managed to obtain the green food A-level certificate for rose dry flower buds issued by the China Green Food Development Center.
In 2023, Pingyin county achieved a regional GDP of 28.12 billion yuan ($3.91 billion), a year-on-year growth of 3.5 percent.
