Laiwu district, the geographical center of Shandong province, is situated 80 kilometers from Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport, 220 kilometers from Qingdao Port, and 40 kilometers from Mount Tai. The district is a major transportation hub, with three railways intersecting and four expressways running through it.

Laiwu district is rich in history and culture and houses a national-level officially protected site - the ancient Ying State site, and China's oldest Great Wall - the Great Wall of Ancient Qi State and Great Wall of Ancient Lu State.

The district boasts abundant ecological resources. It has Jishan Mountain in the east, Xiangshan Mountain in the west, Lianhua Mountain in the south, Yuanshan Mountain in the north, and Dazhou Mountain in the middle. It also houses the largest water surface within the 50-kilometer urban circle of the provincial capital – Xueye Lake, and the highest mountain lake in Shandong province – Tianchi Lake of Lianhua Mountain.

By leveraging the Laiwu High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Xueye Tourist Area, and Laiwu Agricultural High-tech Industrial Demonstration Zone, Laiwu district has accelerated the development of the real economy with the core of the industrial economy and the coordinated promotion of the primary, secondary, and tertiary industries. It has formed a "3+3" industrial system with three leading industries of high-end equipment intelligent manufacturing, biomedicine, advanced materials, and three basic industries of modern agriculture, cultural tourism, and modern logistics.

Laiwu district has a warm temperate semi-humid continental monsoon climate, with distinct seasons - a dry winter, a warm and windy spring, a hot and rainy summer, and a cool and clear autumn.

Laiwu is known for its rich produce, including "three spicy and one numb" (ginger, garlic, chicken-leg-shaped green Chinese onion, Dahongpao pepper), vegetables, melons and fruits, grain and oil, and other agricultural products.

Laiwu district achieved a regional GDP of 103.02 billion yuan ($14.33 billion) in 2023, growing 4.5 percent over the previous year.
