Nestled in the south-central part of Jinan, Shizhong district is surrounded by Lixia district to the east, Changqing and Huaiyin districts to the west, Tianqiao district to the north, and Licheng district to the south. The district is adorned with natural beauty and has Xinglong Mountain, Taohua Mountain, and Dazhai Mountain in the south, Foyu Gully and Qingtong Mountain in the east, and seven famous springs in the north, including Dengzhou Spring, Wangshui Spring, Donggao Spring, Dukang Spring, Shuangtao Spring, Ximizhi Spring, and Shiwan Spring.

As Jinan's hub for politics, economy, culture, and finance, Shizhong district is home to key Party and government agencies such as the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, the regional headquarters of Global Fortune 500 companies like Microsoft, SAP, Alibaba, and Linglong Tire, higher education institutions like University of Jinan and Shandong University Xinglong Campus, and four foreign banks, including HSBC.

The district has a warm temperate continental monsoon climate, characterized by a dry and rainless spring, a hot and rainy summer, a clear autumn, and a cold, dry winter.

In 2023, the district's GDP totaled 135.04 billion yuan ($18.82 billion), an increase of 6.2 percent over the previous year.
