Wonderful Xigengdao Street in Jinan – capital of Shandong province in East China – has undergone a significant facelift which has benefitted the wider community in the city.

In early winter, Wangfu Pond, part of the Pearl Spring near the street, offers an idyllic scene.

"Wangfu Pond has seen some changes after its renovation, but you'll need to visit in the evening to fully appreciate them," said Zhao Xiaolin, a senior journalist from the Jinan Daily.

Nowadays, light strips line the edges of the water, creating a captivating nighttime display of swirling mist and vibrant colors reflected on the pond's surface.

Walking east from Wangfu Pond leads to Xigengdao Street. There, a large window in walls offer glorious views through intricately carved frames and transparent glass. The beautiful scene of the Pearl Spring unfolds before passersby, with the window serving as perfect viewing spot.

Along Xigengdao Street, another highlight of the renovation appears – the Gaosheng Inn once described by Liu E, a writer in the late Qing dynasty (1644-1911).

Outside Gaosheng Inn, a small stream that was once hidden in a courtyard is now revealed to visitors for the first time after the renovation. The scene conjures up images of the past, so you can picture people washing their clothes by the stream beneath the pomegranate trees.
