Jinan shapes future with supercomputing innovation circle
Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, is working to build an innovation hub for the digital economy based on cutting-edge supercomputing technology.
The Jinan Supercomputing Center Science and Technology Park, which opened in 2019, is the world's first such park, and the giant circular headquarters building of the National Supercomputing Center in Jinan sits at its center.
Speaking at a recent news conference, Sun Maohua, director of the Jinan Supercomputing Digital Economy Innovation Circle, highlighted the strengths of the supercomputing innovation zone.
Sun said that the park currently boasts 2,000 Pops of artificial intelligence computing support, focusing on new technological infrastructures such as E-level supercomputing, artificial intelligence, big data, and industrial internet.
The continuous enhancement of the high-end innovation resource allocation capacity aims to attract industry leaders and build a robust supercomputing ecosystem, he said.
Talking about industrial strengths, Sun said that the park has cultivated an integrated circuit semiconductor industry anchored by Jinan Crystal Valley Research, a cyber-security industry represented by Quancheng Laboratory, and an AI industry led by the Overseas Returnees Town.
The park is also strong in terms of talent, Sun said, adding that it has attracted Nobel Prize winners, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and foreign academicians from Russia and Canada.
They are complemented by a diverse range of experts in supercomputing, particle physics, thermal science, and computing and storage science, he said.
Sun said that the innovation circle will continue to leverage its strengths to build platforms to accelerate the aggregation and development of new quality productive forces, injecting continuous momentum into high-quality development.
