Jinan has been selected as one of the 20 pilot cities (consortia) for the integrated application of intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) with car-road-cloud systems, as revealed in an announcement on July 3.

Other cities on the list include Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou.

The announcement requires each pilot city to refine its implementation plans and submit them to the relevant departments for record-keeping to ensure effective execution of the pilot projects.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's Q&A on the pilot work, the pilot project aims to build low-latency, highly reliable cloud-controlled infrastructure, promote large-scale autonomous driving applications, explore new business models, and establish unified standards and testing evaluation systems.

In advancing the large-scale application of autonomous driving, the pilot project will align with the needs of smart cities and industry, conducting multi-scenario trials to improve urban traffic safety and efficiency. Overall, the ICV pilot project will leverage existing infrastructure to accelerate technology implementation and promotion.
