Jinan launches cell, gene therapy sector promotions platform
An innovation conference about cell and gene therapy was held in the China (Shandong) Pilot Trade Zone in Jinan city – located in East China's Shandong province – during which a cell and gene therapy industry promotions platform was launched.
On Nov 3 last year, a groundbreaking initiative was launched to advance the sector. The China (Shandong) Pilot Trade Zone, Jinan's Lixia district and Qilu Hospital of Shandong University signed a strategic cooperation framework to establish the promotions platform.
In May of this year, the three players further strengthened their collaboration with a new agreement, moving the platform's development forward.
Now, after over six months of preparation, both the software and hardware are in place and the platform is officially operational.
On the hardware side, the platform boasts state-of-the-art laboratories and a comprehensive center for integrating stem cell research, industry and education. It also features a regional cell quality testing technology platform – offering specialized cell quality testing services.
On the software side, the platform has attracted top experts, scholars and research institutions – fostering a strong foundation of innovation and technology.
Notably, Qilu Hospital – as a co-building partner – is said to have made significant advancements in therapy research, establishing a comprehensive system for stem cell development and applications.
Since its launch, the platform has reached key milestones. These include 10 new invention patent applications, three granted patents, two industry standards initiated and six patents currently in the preliminary reporting stage.
Moving forwards, plans are for Jinan to actively attract high-quality industrial resources and establish robust standards for cell and gene therapy – aiming to turn the platform into a key engine for biomedicine development across the province.
