Jinan athletes kick off National Games with five golds, one silver

Jinan athletes have excelled in multiple events in the 15th National Games, which kicked off on Nov 9, securing five gold and one silver medal and demonstrating the city's sporting strength and vitality.

In swimming, Jinan's Zhang Xinyu and Li Xinze helped the Shandong team capture the women's 4×100m freestyle relay gold, showcasing exceptional teamwork and determination.

In wushu, or martial arts, Jinan athletes Xu Ao and Lyu Beibei led Shandong province to victory in the taolu (Routines Competition) mixed team event, marking the province's first-ever gold in this category.

Fourteen-year-old Cui Chenxi claimed the women's street skateboarding title, earning Shandong its first gold in the sport.

On the rowing course, Jinan rowers Zhang Yuanze, Zhang Min, and Xu Xiaohan guided the men's and women's teams to gold in the coxed eight with coxswain, while Su Xiaoyu took silver in the women's coxed four. Zhang Min achieved an extraordinary record of eight gold medals across five National Games, underlining her long-term excellence.

Before the opening ceremony, Jinan athletes had already gotten off to a strong start. Li Yuehong, Shan Mengyuan, and Liu Dewen secured three golds in shooting, sailing, and taijiquan (tai chi) all-around competitions.
