Jinan, capital of Shandong province, plans to launch 179 key transportation projects with an investment of 527.9 billion yuan ($72.36 billion) this year, according to a work conference on Feb 11.

The city has significant expansions planned for 2025 in multiple sectors, including rail, roads, public transport, and aviation. Key projects include the acceleration of high-speed rail networks like the Jinan-Binzhou and Jinan-Zaozhuang high-speed railway construction.

Greater efforts will be made to expand the expressway network through ongoing projects like the Qihe-Jinan section of the Beijing-Taipei Expressway, as well as new initiatives such as the Jinan-Yanggu Expressway.

Public transport will see substantial upgrades, with the construction of new metro lines such as Metro Line 4 and Line 8. In the aviation sector, Jinan will continue developing its airport, with plans to construct a new terminal and enhance facilities to meet international standards.

In terms of water transportation, efforts will be stepped up to develop the Xiaoqing River shipping market. This includes conducting market research, strengthening partnerships with ports, shipping, and logistics companies, and encouraging more enterprises to invest in the Xiaoqing River shipping market.

Additionally, the city will invest in cross-river infrastructure, including new bridges and tunnels, and focus on improving urban road networks with projects like the Phoenix Yellow River Bridge.

The plan also prioritizes integrating transportation with industry, tourism, and technology, fostering the growth of a digital and intelligent transport system. By 2025, Jinan aims to enhance its role as a major transport hub, driving economic growth and improving connectivity across the region.
