Jinan opened nine civil air defense facilities to the public on June 21 as part of its 2025 "Cool Summer" campaign, offering residents a refreshing escape from the heat until August 31.

Sites like the civil air defense facilities on Weishier Road offer creative markets, cultural performances, and community services. With many elderly residents nearby, the shelters also serve as venues for seniors to rehearse and perform.

At the Fohui Mountain civil air defense facility, the 2,000-square-meter underground shelter has become a popular summer destination, thanks to an indoor temperature that is 11.5°C cooler than outdoors.

The site is well-equipped with seating areas, drinking water stations, recreation zones, and a public reading room, offering visitors a comfortable and convenient place to relax.

"These civil air defense facilities are cool in summer and warm in winter-perfect for relaxing and staying active," said a local resident named Fan Limin.

The nine facilities span 110,000 square meters across sites like Fohui Mountain, Qianfo Mountain, and Ma'anshan Road and will host over 30 public activities this summer, including performances, policy consultations, and educational events to benefit the community.
