Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, is strengthening efforts to leverage its unique resources and tech innovation to drive rural vitalization and increase farmers' incomes.

In Jinzhuang village, Changqing district, Jinan, for example, modern smart farming systems have been introduced to manage fig greenhouses remotely via cloud-connected mobile apps.

The village has also tackled the issue of fig perishability by building cold storage and processing workshops, enabling the production of fig-based products like dried fruits, jams, wines, and enzymes. These efforts have boosted product value and fostered cross-village cooperation.

In recent years, Jinan has leveraged its natural resources and industrial strengths to develop 12 distinctive agricultural industries, including the rose industry in Pingyin county, the fresh-cut flower industry in Shanghe county, the ginger industry in Laiwu district, and the scallion industry in Zhangqiu district.

The city now hosts China's largest production bases for roses, gingers, orchids, and ruby grapes. It has developed more than 230 varieties of rose and ginger products, with exports accounting for 30 percent and 70 percent of the national totals, respectively, ranking first in the country.

By combining agriculture, processing, and tourism, Jinan has managed to launch 348 collaborative village development projects, benefiting over 1,600 villages. In 2024, per capita disposable income of rural residents in Jinan reached 27,182 yuan ($3,794.66), marking a 6.2 percent year-on-year increase.
