Jinan transport projects gain momentum in H1

Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, invested 33.14 billion yuan ($4.89 billion) in major transport projects in the first half of 2026, fulfilling 66 percent of its annual target and ranking first among cities in the province.

The city plans to undertake 115 major transport projects this year, with a total planned investment of 50 billion yuan, as construction accelerates across railways, aviation, roads, and urban transit networks.

Railway construction continued to advance, with the main construction work of the Jinan–Binzhou high-speed railway completed and the Jinan–Zaozhuang high-speed railway moving forward with the construction of roadbeds, bridges, and tunnels.

Major progress was also made in aviation and urban transport. The city invested 6.2 billion yuan in aviation projects, accelerating the expansion of Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport. The main structures of Terminal 2, the integrated transport center, and major structure of the parking facilities have been completed so far.

Meanwhile, urban transport infrastructure continued to expand. Investment in urban roads reached 9.59 billion yuan, while rail transit projects received 10.74 billion yuan. On Jinan Metro Line 7 Phase Ⅰ, structural work for 17 stations has been completed and 16 tunnel sections have been connected. Meanwhile, structural work has also been completed for all 12 stations on Jinan Metro Line 9 Phase Ⅰ.

The expanding transport network has boosted mobility and logistics efficiency. In the first half of the year, railway passenger traffic reached nearly 25.43 million trips, up 3.2 percent year-on-year, while rail freight volume exceeded 3 million metric tons, marking an increase of 16.9 percent compared to the same period last year. Urban rail transit handled 170 million passenger trips, up 160.2 percent year-on-year, while waterway freight volume rose 263.2 percent year-on-year to 1.49 million tons.
