Jinan speeds up summer harvest
Jinan has entered its peak summer harvest season, with the wheat harvest progressing steadily across the city. As of June 5, more than 15 percent of Jinan's 3.43 million mu (about 228,667 hectares) of wheat had been harvested, with the mechanized harvesting rate exceeding 98 percent.
To ensure a smooth harvest, the city has bolstered agricultural machinery support through subsidy programs and regional coordination. A machinery dispatch network linking Jinan with neighboring cities like Dezhou, Linyi, and Jining helps ensure a sufficient supply of harvesters during the busy season. Additionally, 24-hour emergency hotlines, regional service centers, and professional repair teams have been established to respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and weather-related challenges.
Grain drying capacity has significantly improved in recent years. More than 250 fixed drying facilities and over 100 mobile drying units are now in operation across Jinan, providing a combined daily drying capacity of more than 23,700 metric tons and helping farmers reduce losses due to unstable weather.
New technologies are playing an increasingly important role in the harvest. Beidou Navigation Satellite System-guided harvesters, plant-protection drones, and no-till seeders have been widely deployed, improving operational efficiency and supporting smarter, more precise agricultural production.
