Dragon Boat Festival boosts tourism in Jinan
Jinan recorded a steady increase in tourism during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, supported by more than 100 cultural and tourism activities that combined traditional customs with modern experiences.
According to official data, 30 major scenic spots across the city received more than 1.56 million visitors during the holiday, generating over 43.39 million yuan ($6.39 million) in tourism revenue.
A key highlight was the 25th Minghu dragon boat invitational tournament held on June 19 at Daming Lake. Thirteen teams competed in 200-meter and 500-meter sprint races, drawing large crowds to the lakeshore.
Across the city, traditional culture was seamlessly integrated into urban public spaces. The World's Best Springs Scenic Area hosted themed markets featuring local cuisine, traditional crafts, and hands-on workshops, including zongzi-making (glutinous rice with fillings) and aromatic sachet-crafting activities. Along Shangxin street, parades featuring performers dressed as ancient scholars blended traditional culture with modern nightlife, including craft beer stalls.
Public cultural venues also saw strong visitor traffic. The Jinan Museum launched a special exhibition on the city's spring culture, alongside ink painting activities and classes on intangible cultural heritage. To further stimulate holiday travel, multiple scenic areas across the city offered free admission to recent high school and middle school graduates.
The diverse array of cultural offerings and immersive experiences collectively contributed to a strong tourism boom for Jinan, reflecting the city's growing appeal as a destination where tradition and modernity blend harmoniously.
