Spring blooms fuel Jinan's flower economy
Jinan is turning its vibrant spring blossoms into a flourishing flower economy, transforming seasonal scenery into a driver of urban vitality. By combining flower viewing with immersive experiences, the city aims to ensure that the annual blossom boom generates sustained economic and cultural value.
A diverse landscape of flower-viewing destinations has emerged across the city. In Changqing district, apricot blossoms adorn the hillsides each spring, while cherry blossoms frame the Chaoran Tower, creating one of Jinan's most iconic seasonal scenes. In Pingyin county, rapeseed fields stretch across the countryside, attracting visitors to the golden rural landscape. To assist tourists in planning their trips, the city has launched a visual guide covering 67 major viewing spots, along with bloom forecasts for easier navigation.
Beyond sightseeing, Jinan is expanding its industry value chain by integrating floral themes with culture, tourism, and creative industries. At Baihua Park, a Yulan fair combines traditional handicrafts, local snacks, and AI-powered interactive experiences, while Lingyan Temple hosts a "flower goddess" parade that blends ancient architecture with seasonal celebrations. Camping events, flower-themed cultural creative products, and science education programs are also emerging, turning flower viewing into a richer and more interactive experience.
Strong services and long-term planning are reinforcing the sustainability of this seasonal economy. The city has improved traffic management and introduced online guides to streamline visits during peak bloom periods.
