Jinan to expand agricultural footprint during HK–Macao Shandong week
The 2026 Hong Kong–Macao–Shandong Week will be held in Hong Kong and Macao from May 18 to 22 to strengthen economic and trade cooperation between Shandong province and the two special administrative regions.
Taking advantage of the platform, Jinan plans to further its agricultural presence in Hong Kong, Macao, and overseas markets. Local enterprises will focus on products tailored to the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, including certified vegetables, specialty grains and oils, and Luweizhai deli products. The city also aims to use Hong Kong and Macao as gateways to Portuguese-speaking markets.
Jinan has promoted agricultural exchanges with Hong Kong and Macao in recent years. Over the past three years, the city has organized 41 enterprises to present 132 agricultural products in the two regions. An increasing number of local specialty products have entered these markets, including hydroponic vegetables, selenium-rich flour, and Longshan millet.
The city's agricultural sector features 12 signature industries, including Pingyin rose, Laiwu ginger, Zhangqiu green onion, and Changqing tea. Together, these industries cover about 700,000 mu (46,667 hectares) of cultivation area and generate an annual output of 2 million metric tons with a total value of around 20 billion yuan ($2.94 billion).
Among the best-known products, Zhangqiu green onions – which can grow more than two meters tall – have entered high-end supermarkets in Hong Kong and Macao, while Changqing tea, nourished by spring water, has achieved annual sales exceeding 200 million yuan in these markets.
