New sister-city garden highlights Jinan–Novi Sad ties
A sister-city garden dedicated to Novi Sad, Serbia, was opened in Jinan on May 26, marking a new chapter in cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two cities. The opening ceremony was attended by Chen Guoyou, special representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for China–CEEC Cooperation Affairs, Novi Sad Mayor Zarko Micin, and Han Wei, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jinan Municipal Committee.
Since establishing friendly cooperative relations in 2024, Jinan and Novi Sad have strengthened exchanges across multiple fields. Spanning about 500 square meters, the newly unveiled garden incorporates landscapes and architectural features inspired by the Serbian city.
The garden draws from the open scenery of the Pannonian Plain and the forests of Fruska Gora. A clock tower and layered terraces inspired by Petrovaradin Fortress form the centerpiece, complemented by seasonal flowers and wooden pavilions that reflect the city's cultural identity. Elements of Novi Sad's city emblem were woven into the design through pathways and greenery.
Micin described the garden as a lasting symbol of friendship, noting that Jinan and Novi Sad share a spirit of openness and hospitality and have deepened practical cooperation in recent years.
Han said the project would provide a new platform for cultural and people-to-people exchange. He hoped that the two cities would further expand cooperation across broader fields.
