An international show jumping event is bringing high-level equestrian competition to Jinan, combining competitions with cultural activities and consumer promotions to offer a broader sporting experience.

The CSI** 2026 International Show Jumping and Jinan Open opened in the city on Sept 12, attracting 330 horse-and-rider combinations from more than 50 equestrian clubs around the world.

Held at Taishan No 7 Equestrian Club, the event offers total prize money of 800,000 yuan ($119,292) and features eight competition categories, ranging from a 60-centimeter timed competition to a 1.45-meter grand prix.

The event follows the two-star standards of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports, with international course designers and judges appointed by the Chinese Equestrian Association. Venue facilities, horse welfare and event services are also managed in line with international standards.

Beyond the competition, organizers are introducing audiences to equestrian sports through online content and developing themed products in collaboration with local museums and cultural heritage organizations. Event ticket holders can also receive discounts at participating tourist attractions, restaurants, and shops across Jinan.

The event is part of Jinan's broader effort to integrate sports with culture, tourism, and consumption. In the first half of this year, the city hosted 191 major sporting events, including 16 international and national-level competitions. Those events generated an estimated economic impact of 2.12 billion yuan for Jinan.
