A cultural event marking UN Chinese Language Day was held on April 19 at Qianfo Mountain in Jinan, bringing together over 100 international students and cultural enthusiasts from more than 10 countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Tajikistan, Kenya, and Thailand.

The event featured a series of cultural activities at key sites on the mountain, which taught participants about the legends of Emperor Shun (pre-21st century BC) and the core values of filial piety, benevolence, and harmony associated with traditional Chinese culture. Jinan – historically known as the "Shun city" – is closely linked to these traditions, with one legend holding that Emperor Shun once farmed at Lishan Mountain.

A highlight of the celebration was a ceremonial tribute to Emperor Shun, including recitations of classical texts such as Ode to Emperor Shun and The Great Harmony. International participants also took part in reading classical Chinese poetry and prose in Mandarin, demonstrating cross-cultural engagement with the Chinese language.

Participants also tried their hand at kite-making, experiencing a traditional spring activity rooted in Chinese culture. The event offered international visitors an opportunity to better understand Jinan's cultural heritage and the values embedded in the Chinese language.
