From book markets to metro reads, Jinan celebrates reading week
China's first national reading week runs from April 20 to 26, and Jinan has launched a series of activities to promote reading across the city.
The program offers diverse reading experiences. In Mingshui Ancient Town, a book market featuring second-hand titles creates a relaxed cultural atmosphere, while pop-up reading events on Jinan Metro Line 4 integrate literature into daily commutes. The Jinan Library has also introduced online competitions, offering prizes and expanding access to its digital resources.
Renowned writers will take part in talks and sharing sessions, providing readers with opportunities to engage more closely with contemporary literature.
The campaign will reach its peak on April 24 with the release of Jinan's annual reading initiatives, further improving access to public reading services and strengthening the city's efforts to foster a lasting reading culture.
