Traditionally found in southern China's Yunnan province, a non-toxic variety of yellow bolete has been successfully cultivated by a research team in Jinan, Shandong province.

The successful trial was carried out at a local mushroom-growing base after months of experiments. Yellow bolete is best known for turning blue when bruised or handled, and wild varieties contain neurotoxins that can cause poisoning if improperly prepared. According to the research team, the cultivated strain has been verified as safe for consumption.

Using intelligent mushroom-growing chambers that precisely regulate temperature, humidity, lighting, and ventilation, the team has significantly improved cultivation efficiency. Mushrooms begin fruiting within four to five days, are ready for harvest in seven to eight days, and complete a growing cycle in little more than 10 days, making year-round production possible.

The technology is also expected to create new income opportunities for local growers. A single cultivation chamber can produce about 250 kilograms of mushrooms, with wholesale prices of about 60 yuan ($8.86) per kilogram.
