Jinan facility turns urban waste into green power
A waste incineration power plant in the Jinan Start-up Area for Growth Drivers Transformation is setting a new standard for urban sustainability by combining waste disposal, electricity generation, and heating.
Operated by Everbright environmental energy (Jinan), the facility processes 1.1 million metric tons of household waste annually, replacing traditional landfill methods with a more efficient resource recovery model.
Heat generated from waste incineration is converted into steam for electricity production, with the plant generating 400 million kilowatt-hours annually. A new clean heating network uses flue gas heat recovery to heat 500,000 square meters of residential space.
The project is a crucial part of the region's green infrastructure. It lowers the risks of groundwater contamination and reduces about 23,000 tons of methane emissions each year, which is equivalent to a 640,000-ton reduction in carbon dioxide.
This integrated approach offers a model for balancing ecological protection with economic and social benefits.
