Shandong University (SDU) has recently announced the official sites of its two heavyweight projects: the new building of the Jinan International Medical Center of Qilu Hospital and the National Collaborative Innovation Platform for Medical Research and Education.
The former is located to the south of Jiqi Road, on both sides of the east-west medical avenue and north of the Nantaiping River, and covers an area of approximately 40 hectares. It aims to be a comprehensive national medical center with world-class clinical treatments, a leading talent training center and a highland for the transformation of scientific research achievements. The area will build seven centers and break through bottleneck issues in core technologies.
SDU's National Collaborative Innovation Platform for Medical Research and Education is jointly supported by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Education. It focuses on three major fields: medical and engineering integration, research and development of vaccines and drugs, and treatment for major diseases such as tumors. Only nine universities in the country have been identified as construction units.
Led by the Qilu Hospital, the project is near the new building of the Jinan International Medical Center, and covers a total area of 27,678 square meters. After completion, it will boost interdisciplinary innovation between medicine and engineering, give full play to its role in talent cultivation and discipline construction and research, and provide important support for the high-quality development of Shandong.
Currently, the region around the Jinan International Medical Center has gathered numerous medical, scientific research, and industrial resources, including the National Health Data Center (North) and the Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Medical College of Optometry and Ophthalmology.
