Jinan scales up rail infrastructure to boost regional connectivity
Jinan is accelerating the expansion of its multi-dimensional transportation network in 2026, solidifying its position as a key rail hub in Shandong province.
The city currently operates 910 kilometers of railway lines, including 482 km high-speed rail line – the most in the province. With 660 daily high-speed train services connecting 366 cities nationwide, this network plays an essential role in supporting regional economic integration and high-quality development.
The year 2026 will mark a significant phase for several major rail projects. The Jinan–Binzhou high-speed railway has finished its main structural works and will move into track-laying and station construction to ensure operations begin by the end of the year. Meanwhile, the Jinan–Zaozhuang high-speed railway will enter an intensive construction phase, with 60 percent of its core engineering works expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Alongside rail expansion, the city will upgrade supporting transport infrastructure. Renovation of the south square of Jinan Railway Station is slated to start its first phase in the second half of the year.
Efforts will also focus on enhancing freight capacity. Several specialized rail links, including one serving the Shuifa international logistics park, are expected to reach key construction milestones, improving industrial logistics support.
