High groundwater levels keep Baotu Spring flowing
Groundwater levels at Baotu Spring have remained above 29 meters for more than nine consecutive months, the longest period since the spring resumed flowing in 2003.
The groundwater level first rose above the 29-meter mark on Sept 7, 2025, and currently stands about 1.2 meters higher than the same period last year, keeping Baotu Spring's iconic three spring vents flowing at full strength.
The 29-meter groundwater level is a key benchmark for Jinan's spring system. When groundwater reaches that level, all 72 famous springs across the city stay active, creating one of the best opportunities for visitors to experience Jinan's renowned spring landscape.
The sustained groundwater level reflects both favorable hydrological conditions and the city's long-term efforts to protect its spring water system, conserve groundwater resources and improve the ecological environment.
With abundant spring water and lush summer greenery, the Baotu Spring scenic area has entered one of its best viewing seasons, attracting residents and tourists alike.
