As the Year of the Horse approaches, demand is surging across major trading hubs of Jinan's Spring Festival flower market. Popular varieties such as phalaenopsis orchids and calla lilies are among the top sellers.

The market boom is supported by a robust foundation. Jinan has developed a flower cultivation area of 59,000 mu (about 3,933 hectares), including nearly 3,000 mu of modern, facility-based farming. In 2024, the city's total flower sales reached 1.28 billion yuan ($184.3 million).

A diversified industrial layout has ensured a stable supply and quality. The city has formed five specialized flower industry clusters, covering high-end potted plants in Shanghe county, miniature bonsai in Shizhong district, and the internationally recognized rose industry in Pingyin county.

Ongoing innovation has strengthened competitiveness. Jinan has independently bred 17 new flower varieties, including phalaenopsis orchids and flamingo flowers, and secured 37 patents. By combining flower cultivation with tourism, wellness, and themed industry events, the city is expanding the flower economy beyond seasonal sales into a more integrated, value-added sector.
