Established in 1977, the Shandong Art Museum has an exhibition area spanning 19,700 square meters that includes an exhibition hall, an art creation department and a Lunar New Year's painting research center.

The Shandong Art Museum features more than 4,000 Chinese traditional paintings. Seventy to 100 art exhibitions and various public academic activities are held in the museum every year.

Various exhibitions of art works by well-known Chinese artists have been hosted at the Shandong Art Museum. These artists include Yang Yuanwu, a distinguished Chinese painter who is well-known for his paintings of flowers and birds, Shan Yinggui, who is renowned for new year paintings, as well as Xu Jindi, who is famous for landscape paintings.
