Why Jinan: Jinan sees 7.2% GDP growth in 2021

The gross domestic product (GDP) of Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, totaled 1.14 trillion yuan ($179.83 billion) in 2021, up 7.2 percent from that in 2020, local media reported on Jan 27.

Despite the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the city's average annual GDP growth for the past two years reached 6 percent, authorities said.

In 2021, the added value of the city's primary industry reached 40.88 billion yuan, an increase of 7.1 percent from the previous year and an average increase of 4.6 percent over the previous two years.

The added value of the secondary industry stood at 396.41 billion yuan, an increase of 3.6 percent from that in 2020, and an average increase of 5.3 percent over the previous two years.

The added value of its tertiary industry was 705.94 billion yuan, an increase of 9.2 percent from that in 2020, and an average increase of 6.4 percent over the past two years.

The city's agricultural production maintained steady growth and its total grain output reached 2.93 million tons.

Consumption also saw a gradual recovery with total retail sales of consumer goods amounting to 512.61 billion yuan, up 14.7 percent.

In addition, industries in the city saw stable growth and the added value of industries above designated size rose 5.9 percent, with an average increase of 9 percent over the past two years. The added value of the high-tech manufacturing industry saw a 17.2 percent growth.

The city's investment structure also improved. Fixed asset investments increased by 11.5 percent, with an average increase of 7.7 percent over the past two years.

Meanwhile, Jinan's exports and imports totaled 194.42 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 40.1 percent. Its imports reached 77.01 billion yuan, up 21.5 percent from 2020 while its exports were valued at 117.41 billion yuan, a 55.6 percent increase.

In addition, the general public budget revenue amounted to 100.76 billion yuan, while government expenditures totaled 129.31 billion yuan.

People's living standards also improved last year as the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents increased by 7.7 percent and 10.5 percent to 57,449 yuan and 22,580 yuan, respectively.
