China's first commercial hydrogen internal combustion engine heavy truck debuts in Jinan
China's first commercial hydrogen internal combustion engine heavy truck debuted at the Shandong Heavy Industry New Technology Achievement Exhibition in Jinan, Shandong province on June 15.
The vehicle, jointly developed by Weichai Power and Sinotruk, is the new generation of Sinotruk's Yellow River high-end heavy truck, which is equipped with a 13-litre hydrogen internal combustion engine independently developed by Weichai Power.
The heavy truck can be commercially applied in ports, cities, power plants, steel mills, industrial parks and other special transportation scenarios.
Weichai Power began to explore hydrogen internal combustion engine technology in 2018 and made breakthroughs in key core technologies and commercial applications. The engines developed by Weichai Power achieved an effective thermal efficiency of 41.8 percent, reaching advanced international standards.
"The breakthroughs of core technology and commercial application of the hydrogen internal combustion engines will be of great significance to China's energy conservation, emission reduction and green development," said Tan Xuguang, president of Shandong Heavy Industry Group.
