The first comprehensive green, low-carbon interactive electric vehicle battery swapping station in China has been completed and put into trial operation in Jinan, Shandong province on Aug 2.

The station features energy storage-based battery swapping facilities, a zero-carbon demonstration area, an interactive vehicle networking area, and a commercial fast charging zone, with 122 charging spots available.

In recent years, the State Grid's Jinan Power Supply Co has taken advantage of the development strengths of the Jinan Start-up Area for Growth Drivers Transformation to promote electricity charging stations. The station was equipped with multi-functional charging facilities, offering efficient service for 36,000 electric vehicles in surrounding areas.

The Jinan power company introduced China's best super-charging facilities, applying full liquid cooling technology to the station. The station also possessed the first storage section for charging, which served as storage equipment to ease the power load peak.

The company also constructed photovoltaic facilities, reducing its carbon omission to nearly zero. The station ensured electricity for significant events and emergencies surrounding a vehicle.

"Electricity vehicles are not only cars but mobile storage of electricity, which can flexibly adjust the power load," said a manager from the Jinan power company.

Intelligent charging poles in the station realized electricity trade to ease the power load peak. Vehicle owners could enjoy free charging in the off-peak period after providing electricity to the grid during the peak demand period, which decreased their charging costs.
