As part of the city's recent efforts to develop its relationship with sister cities and provide a healthier and more natural environment for expats, new gardens have been built in Jinan that feature the architectural styles of its sister cities.

Six international sister city gardens have currently been constructed by the city, including a rose-themed garden designed in honor of Kazanlak, Bulgaria, and a Hwaseong Fortress-inspired garden in honor of Suwon, South Korea.

By standardizing the English translation of names in the city's public spaces, Jinan also contributes to the creation of more hospitable facilities and a positive multilingual environment.

International communities have been built to improve the living environment for foreigners. Shunjing community, for example, provides an international exchange platform for locals and foreign nationals. The communities have organized more than 100 cultural exchange activities themed on traditional festivals, intangible cultural heritages, and local delicacies.
