
Arba Minch is a city and district in southwestern Ethiopia. Located in the Gamo Gofa Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region (SNNPR), one of the nine ethnically based regional states in Ethiopia, Arba Minch is about 500 kilometers south of Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia.
At an elevation of 1,285 meters above sea level, Arba Minch is the largest town in Gamo Gofa Zone and the second-largest town in SNNPR after Awassa. It is surrounded by Arba Minch Zuria district, which is the most resource rich zone in the southern region. It has the two largest lakes in Ethiopia, Chamo and Abaya lakes. Arba Minch has more than 40 springs, the National Nechisar Park, and a crocodile market. The city is rich in fruits, including banana, apple, mango and avocado.
Arba Minch established sister city ties with Jinan, the capital city of Shandong province, in October 2018.
