Jinan has profound traditional Chinese culture and rich traditional Chinese resources, providing a good foundation for the development of traditional Chinese medicine industry.

In 2020, the revenue of the city's traditional Chinese medicine industry reached 11.36 billion yuan ($1.78 billion). The city is home to five grade-III traditional Chinese medicine hospitals, seven grade-II traditional Chinese medicine hospitals and 901 traditional Chinese medicine institutions in the city.

By 2025, the revenue of growing, production and processing, circulation and health services in traditional Chinese medicine industry is expected to reach 2.1 billion yuan, 3.7 billion yuan, 14.2 billion yuan and 4 billion yuan, respectively.

The city will cultivate two traditional Chinese medicine enterprises with business revenue of over 1 billion yuan, two enterprises with operating revenue of over 500 million yuan and seven enterprises with operating revenue of over 100 million yuan. Two provincial-level demonstration bases integrating traditional Chinese medicine and nursing have been built.
