Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, will pool efforts to promote the high-quality development of museums in 2022 with the aim to build itself into a city of museums, according to Zhi Liang, director of the Jinan Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism.

Jinan will implement the guidelines for promoting the reform and development of museums, issue supporting policies for museum development, and support the healthy development of non-State-owned museums and professional ones.

According to the city's 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) for cultural and tourism development, Jinan will speed up the construction of new museum venues in the city and support the construction, renovation and upgrading of county-level museums in Pingyin and Shanghe counties. By 2025, the city is expected to have 150 museums, with an annual number of 300 exhibitions.

Jinan currently is home to dozens of various museums, which showcase the city's culture and history. It has eight Stated-owned museums including Jinan Museum, Zhangqiu Museum, Laiwu Museum, and Changqing Museum.

In addition, a number of new museums and cultural relics parks are under construction or scheduled to be built to facilitate the city's goal of becoming a city of museums such as the Yellow River Culture Exhibition Hall, the Great Wall of Qi National Cultural Park, and the Daxinzhuang Archaeological Site Park.
