Shandong Normal University, founded in 1950, was the first university offering undergraduate education in Shandong province after the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.

Covering a total area of about 4,000 mu (266.67 hectares), the university has two campuses which is located in Lixia and Changqing districts of Jinan city respectively.

The university boasts a total of 21 schools (departments), 84 undergraduate majors, 13 post-doctoral research stations, 14 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degree, and 33 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degree.

The university has established a complete education system covering preschool, primary, secondary, higher and adult education, as well as a system to cultivate pedagogy talents, including bachelors, masters, doctors and post-doctors, making it the only university in the province that runs the two systems at the same time.

Shandong Normal University has established inter-school exchange and cooperation relations with 138 colleges and universities in 30 countries and regions around the world. It has built up five Confucius Institutes and three Confucius Classrooms in South Korea, Kenya, the United States, Brazil and Saudi Arabia through international collaboration.
