
Jinan municipal government released its construction plan for the city's tram line projects on Oct 27.
The first tram line, with a total length of 35.5 kilometers, will start from Jinan’s east station and extend to Jiyang district. It will have 16 stations throughout the Jinan Innovation Zone, Licheng district, Jiyang district, and the Jinan Pioneer Zone.
Jinan plans to build a total of six tram lines, including lines from Laiwu district to Gangcheng district, Changqing district to Pingyin county, and Jiyang district to Shanghe county, in an effort to promote the connection between urban and rural areas.
The first phase of the project, which includes 31.9 kilometers of the tram lines, is expected to be completed by 2024, and the daily passenger throughput is estimated to be about 68,700.
The second period is expected to be completed in 2031 to build line with an additional length of 31.9 kilometers. The daily passenger throughput is estimated to be about 97,400.
The third phase, which consists of 42.6 kilometers of tram line, is expected to be completed in 2046. The daily passenger throughput is estimated to be about 243,700.
