Huaiyin district in Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, has made great strides in economic and social development over the last decade.

The district's gross domestic product surged from 29.17 billion yuan ($4.06 billion) to 70.11 billion yuan in past 10 years. During the 2012-21 period, the general public budget revenue also increased at an average annual rate of 7 percent.

In the first half of this year, the GDP of Huaiyin district reached 33.88 billion yuan, up 5.1 percent year-on-year, ranking second in Jinan city and the industrial added value increased by 41.8 percent year-on-year, ranking first in the city, according to Sun Changjian, Party chief of Huanyin.

The district's industries also recorded robust development in the past decade. During the period, Jinan Medical Center in the district attracted 248 medical projects, among which 39 are under construction. The district is now home to five Fortune Global 500 enterprises, 19 of China's top 500 enterprises, and 32 headquarters of China's centrally-administered enterprises.

"In the past 10 years, Huaiyin district put a major focus on enhancing people's livelihoods, which accounted for about 76.2 percent of the local government's total fiscal expenditures," Sun said. The per capita disposable income of urban residents increased from 30,511 yuan in 2012 to 59,813 yuan in 2021.

Over the last decade, 102 educational facilities were built, renovated or expanded. An additional 4.65 million square meters of green spaces were added, which have greatly improved the ecological environment, and a number of urban infrastructure facilities, such as the Jinan west station for long-distance passenger transportation and Jinan west bus hub, were put into use. In addition, the metro lines 1 and 2 opened to the public and lines 4 and 6 started construction, which is intended to create a more convenient traffic network.
