In the past five years, Jinan, capital of Shandong province, has vigorously developed its transportation network, positioning itself as a key hub within China's national transport system.

In the urban transit sector, Metro Lines 1, 2, and 3 are already in operation, with a total operating mileage of 97 kilometers, while Metro Lines 4, 6, and 8 have begun trial operations and are expected to open by the end of this year. By 2027, upon the completion of the second phase, metro access will be available to more residents right at their doorstep.

The integration of bus and metro services has significantly improved last-mile convenience for residents. Jinan currently operates 218 bus routes, linking 46 metro stations. Continuous optimization, expansion, and the introduction of customized lines have further enhanced commuting efficiency.

Within the city, 21 cross-Yellow River channels are now in operation, enhancing connectivity across the riverbanks.

Beyond urban transit, Jinan's railway system reinforces regional and national links. As one of China's 27 national railway hubs, the city serves 20 railway lines spanning 835 km, including 12 high-speed lines totaling 446 km. Each day, approximately 660 high-speed trains depart from Jinan, directly connecting 366 cities.

The highway network forms a highly connected backbone, linking the city extensively with surrounding areas. Covering 899.3 km, the network connecting nearby cities within the provincial economic circle has been largely completed. With the highest road network density in the province, it ensures the smooth flow of people and goods.

In the aviation sector, the second phase expansion of Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport is underway. Once completed, the upgraded airport will feature three runways and an 800,000-square-meter terminal, serving over 10 surrounding cities.

Annual passenger capacity will increase to 55 million, with cargo and mail handling projected at 520,000 metric tons. The 4F-class facility will accommodate large aircraft and enable seamless transfers between air, rail, and road, establishing itself as the province's largest and most fully integrated transportation hub.

Water transport is also developing. In February 2024, the Jinan section of the Xiaoqing River commenced operations, allowing cargo from the city to reach ports in Hainan, Zhejiang, and Guangdong provinces, further enhancing Jinan's multimodal logistics capacity.
