It has 110,000 square meters of terminal area, 360,000 sq m of apron area and 24 boarding bridges. The 4E-standard can accommodate large aircraft like Boeing 747-400 and below. With continuous investment, Jinan International Airport boasts a high degree of modernization. Its flight area is equipped with I-Category precision instrument landing, navigation lighting, meteorological observation, communication and navigation systems. To guarantee efficient and safe operation of the airport, the terminal is equipped with advanced departure facilities, navigation, monitoring, and information integration, building automation, security check information, public broadcasting, closed-circuit television, internal communications dispatch and fire alarms.
As an important gateway for opening-up and exchanges for Jinan and Shandong, in 2017 the airport's passenger throughput reached 14.32 million and it operated 115,300 flights. Currently, Jinan International Airport has reached 85 cities at home and abroad on more than 150 routes, including 22 international ones, such as the intercontinental passenger routes linking Jinan to Los Angeles, Moscow and Paris, and the Belgian intercontinental freight routes, which have greatly promoted Shandong's opening-up to the outside world, and local economic and social development.
In the future, Jinan Airport will speed up the implementation of the "8+3" route development plan by opening eight to 10 intercontinental passenger routes in two or three years, including ones to Boston, New York and Vancouver in North America, Europe's Helsinki, Munich, and Australia's Sydney and Melbourne. It will also add three intercontinental cargo routes, including ones to Los Angeles and Chicago in the United States, and Brussels or Frankfurt in Europe.
Jinan International Airport plans to build three terminal buildings and four runways to meet the demands of annual passenger throughput of 80 million. Work will start soon on the second phase of the expansion project, which includes four main projects: the relocation of work space, a runway, the T2 terminal building and a comprehensive transport center. After completion, it will achieve annual passenger handling capacity of 42 million, and cargo and postal throughput of 500,000 tons.
