Zero-carbon smart project to boost Jinan's green development
The zero-carbon smart industrial park infrastructure project, located in the Jinan Start-up Area for Growth Drivers Transformation in the northern part of Jinan, Shandong province, is set to be completed by the end of June.
The project has recieved around 1.3 billion yuan ($178 million) in investment, covers 72,400 square meters, and houses 1,500 square meters of building-integrated photovoltaic glass, with each square meter providing a carbon reduction equivalent to planting four trees. The total glass area generates about 112,500 kWh of power annually.
By utilizing green and solar power, the building will save over 1,000 metric tons of coal and cuts 2,700 tons of carbon dioxide each year.
It also integrates solar thermal and photovoltaic systems with smart shading, ventilation, rainwater collection, and urban heat island mitigation to enhance ecological regulation.
In 2022, the project won the Global Habitat Planning and Design Award at the 17th Annual Session of Global Forum on Human Settlements, marking the first time a public building in Jinan has received this honor.
