Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province laid out its goals for the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) at the 12th plenary meeting of the 11th CPC Jinan committee on Dec 15.

According to officials, the city's GDP will rise in the national rankings during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.

In the next five years, Jinan's major economic indicators are expected to lead other cities in Shandong province.

The city will endeavor to achieve major strides in scientific innovation, intelligent manufacturing, cultural construction, healthcare and ecological environment.

A modern industrial system featuring coordinated development of the real economy, scientific and technological innovation, modern finance and human resources will be established.

More efforts will be made to promote the city's opening up and speed up the development of the Jinan Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone. The construction of demonstration areas for ecological protection in the Yellow River Basin will also be a priority.

The city has also set the goal of becoming an important regional economic, scientific innovation, financial, trade and cultural center in China by 2035.
