Tin carving is a unique craft which has been practiced in China and around the world for more than 300 years.

Laiwu tin carving is a prime example of northern China's tinware craft, originating in Laiwu district, Jinan, Shandong province. Its history dates back to the late Ming (1368-1644) and early Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

Renowned for its intricate craftsmanship, Laiwu tin carving features exquisite engravings and elegant yet sturdy designs.

The process of creating Laiwu tin carvings is highly complex, consisting of 12 steps, including design, material melting, cutting, shaping, molding, spinning, engraving, and fine polishing. In 2008, Laiwu tin carving was included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage items.
